Zimbabwean JCI Officer Wins Award

Press Release
November 30, 2011

The 2010 JCI Vice President for Africa and Middle East from Zimbabwe, Shingai Rukwata Ndoro has scored bigger and higher at the international platform. Shingai was awarded at the recent 2010 and 65th JCI World Congress in Osaka, Japan for being the most outstanding Vice President for Africa and Middle East. He becomes the first JCI Board Member from Zimbabwe to clinch this highly regarded award in known history since the organization has been in the country from 1967 and having produced 3 JCI officers from 1980.

Shingai travelled to Lesotho, South Africa, Mauritius, Ghana, Nigeria and Uganda as he ensured the development of the organization by promoting JCI programs, providing training and evaluating the performance of the national organizations. His initiatives sought to accomplish three principal goals stemming of the 2010 JCI Plan of Action, notably: an increase in membership; a repositioning of the organization through marketing and communication; and the implementation of UN Millennium Development Goals with emphasis on the JCI Nothing But Nets campaign.

Shingai also attended 2010 JCI Board of Directors Meetings in Missouri, USA and Osaka, Japan; the JCI Global Partnership Summit in New York, USA, and the JCI international events in Abuja, Nigeria (Africa and the Middle East Conference) and Osaka, Japan (World Congress).

The Zimbabwean Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Tapiwa Mashakada and the Ambassador to Japan and South Korea, Stuart Comberbach who were present during the JCI World Congress awards ceremony, applauded this achievement together with that of JCI Zimbabwe which was also awarded by the JCI World President roland Kwemain for being the impactful national organization in Africa and Middle East during his visit in March.

Commenting on what this award meant to him, Shingai had this to say, “The award is a recognition of my leadership, contribution and service to JCI in 2010. It marks a remarkable milestone of my personal journey of tragedies and triumphs, regrets and satisfaction. I strived with a firm conviction, passion and positive energy that fortified me through the variability of despair and hope. I have not lived my life and achieved alone. It has been nourished by my supportive dear wife, vibrant and highly energized children who have given me every reason to focus on improving today’s life for their future, caring parents who are my prime examples of unconditional sacrifice and service, and the warm company and unconditional appreciation of friends and relatives.

He continued, “I remain committed to the betterment of the world around me. It deeply pains me that my mother is not here to join me in this celebration after we lost her in September. I continue to receive smiles from her restful immortal spirit in the eternal cosmos. I am brimming with hope and optimism for the future having learnt from my past and current experiences.

Shingai’s vibrancy saw JCI Zimbabwe regaining international recognition after years of obscurity owing largely to Zimbabwe’s economic depression which made it difficult for JCI Zimbabwe to maintain it’s subscription obligations to JCI. He became the first JCI Board Member from Zimbabwe in 13 years.

  1. True leaders are not known by their words but by their actions. The love of people the love to achieve a greater better world for the next generation an ascertion of the future a plan for the next generation a mark on a people.

Let us applaud those amongst us who achieve greater than ourselves lest we get caught up in the maze of satisfaction in the hallways of underperformance thinking that we have arrived yet like one man said "wake up and smell the coffee". I would say to ourselves greatness is amongst us let us honor it.

    Congrats mate.
